Located just northeast of downtown Los Angeles along Eagle Rock Boulevard, Dunsmoor operates as a full-service restaurant with a clear focus on elevated, wood-fired cooking and bold, layered flavors. The space itself strikes a balance between a cozy neighborhood vibe and a refined dining experience, making it a spot where both longtime locals and curious visitors can settle in without feeling rushed.

The heart of the menu leans heavily into seasonal, thoughtfully composed plates featuring local ingredients prepared with a wood-roasting technique that imparts a distinctive smokiness. One standout is Edna’s Sour-Milk Cornbread, noted for its moisture and crispness that manage to avoid heaviness despite some guests finding it sweet. Wood-roasted oysters, including Belon and Bourguignonne styles, emphasize freshness coupled with a nuanced char. The beef ribeye served with bone marrow showcases the kitchen’s commitment to rich, textured flavors, while lighter options like Baby Albacore and grilled Bandera quail balance the plate roster.

Because the menu is crafted with several dishes that carry a richness or depth to their ingredients—such as pork and green chili stew or chopped duck liver—the overall meal tends to lean toward the substantial side. This makes it an excellent choice for diners looking to indulge in a lingering dinner occasion rather than a quick bite. Salads and sides, like the Caesar salad and cheddar & chive potatoes, complement the heavier mains, though they can sometimes add to the richness, something to keep in mind if you prefer lighter fare.

Service at Dunsmoor is noted for being attentive and warm without being overly formal, supporting a relaxed, unpretentious evening. The ambiance owes much to its open kitchen and wood fire oven, creating both a visual and aromatic centerpiece that fills the space with subtle warmth. Overall, the restaurant fits well into the Eagle Rock neighborhood’s evolving food scene, offering a dining experience grounded in quality local ingredients with a thoughtful, smoke-infused twist.

Ideal for those who enjoy exploring complex flavor combinations with a noticeable smoky undertone and a willingness to share thoughtfully portioned plates. It’s best visited for dinner, especially on cooler evenings when the warmth of the wood fire and the hearty menu feel most fitting. Reservations are wise, as the space draws regulars alongside visitors discovering a step outside the usual LA dining routes.

Absolutely delicious! Every dish was something I felt like I could order again - all perfectly balanced and well executed. You must order the albacore and the main fish - both exceptional. Service was also lovely and attentive.

Overall good dinner but I personally thought it was quite heavy. Even the salad (too much cheese for my liking), and the cornbread too sweet. Lastly, the porkchop had too much fat :/ loved the its staff and atmosphere!

Everything was so good. It really exceeded my expectations. Favorites and most unique dishes were the corn bread and smoked duck ham. Second tier of favorites were the mushroom crusted pork chop, braised cabbage, and Carolina shrimp rice. Prices can be up there... Between two people we spent about 270 before tip and round 310 after. Overall, would recommend to those that haven't tried but as someone who looked to try unique dishes I'd need to see new items before coming back but would love to see them.

We just found this place about 15 mins outside of DTLA and was phenomenal! Everything on their menus was filled with big and bold flavors. Super fresh herbs. The cornbread was the best ever had. Perfectly crispy on the outside and moist and sweet on the inside. Again their use of herbs in the cornbread elevated the dish to another level! They have a smoker so the ribeye had a delicious Smokey flavor and you spread the bone marrow on it to further enhance the taste. Raw items and dessert you also don't want to skip!

Love a good wood fire oven - the ambiance of the space matches it perfectly. We ordered a recommended amount per section for two people with two entrees. Love albacore light and bright, didn’t love the cornbread was really tasty but super heavy and sweet. Crab cake with the corn was a bit heavy. The peach salad was highlight for me personally with a Smokey bit of bacon. The chilli and tortillas was another highlight. Got the catfish and pork but was too full at that point to finish. The wine recommendation was spot on for what I was looking for. Would come back for another meal or seasonal menu refresh.

We ordered a variety of dishes at Dunsmoor, and everything was great—but the steak, cornbread, and desserts were truly next level. I’m from the South, and it genuinely felt like I’d been teleported back home. The flavors were authentic, and the attention to detail was impressive. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with beautiful lighting that made the whole experience feel intimate—definitely a great spot for a date night. The staff was friendly and attentive, which made the meal even better. Overall: A solid spot I’d highly recommend!

Back at Dunsmoor for the third time, and it never fails to surprise. Start with the baby albacore, pickled mussels, and chicken liver—absolute musts. The tomato caesar salad with bottarga is pure genius. Pork chop is smoky, tender perfection, but the quail steals the show, every bite is unforgettable. Wish it was on the menu every time.

Dunsmoor is a truly spectacular restaurant. Since my first dining experience, I have been back several times - each experience as equally memorable as the previous. The space is warm and rustic. The service is friendly and approachable. The food is astonishing. The staples that you should skip are the baby albacore tuna, the dressed lettuces, the cornbread (best you’ll have anywhere) and the highlight - the green chile stew fresh tortillas. I dream of the cornbread and the green chile stew. In fact, I just made another reservation while writing this. You won’t have a bad experience. While they are wine only, you can go to The Grant on the opposite corner and have cocktails before or after. Dunsmoor is special.
